Do I need a license to use Nordic API Gateway?

The short answer is yes. To use Nordic API Gateway, your company must be a registered Account Information Service Provider (AISP) and/or a Payment Initiation Service Provider (PISP).

To become a registered service provider, you must comply with the rules set by the Financial Supervisory Authority (FSA) in the country you’re operating in. If you have any questions or concerns about the AISP or PISP license, please feel free to contact us.

Short for Account Information Service Provider, an AISP is a business or service that is authorised by the financial supervisory authority (FSA) to access account and transaction data from business or personal banks.

What is a PISP license and how do I get it?

A Payment Initiation Service Provider (PISP), is a business or service that is licensed by the Financial Supervisory Authority (FSA) to initiate payments from customers’ bank accounts with the consent of the customers.

What is a Third Party Provider?

Short for Third Party Provider, a TPP is a collective term that is used for AIS and PIS providers. If your business is a licensed AIS or PIS provider, your business acts as a third-party provider.

What is a PSD2 certificate and how do I get it?

Because we’re using banks’ PSD2 APIs, you need to acquire special PSD2 certificates.

These certificates are used by banks to verify the identity of your business and prove that you're a licensed Third Party Provider according to the PSD2 legislation.

Is Nordic API Gateway connected to PSD2 APIs?

Yes, we’re currently integrating banks’ new PSD2 APIs across the Nordics. However, to make sure you get the best experience possible, we still use our reverse engineered APIs if the quality of banks’ PSD2 APIs does not live up to our expectations.

Can I use Nordic API Gateway for personal use?

No. You can only use Nordic API Gateway to build services to the benefit of end-users.

Is Nordic API Gateway PSD2 compliant?

Yes! We’re all about compliance and security - also when it comes to the EU’s legislation, PSD2 (Revised Payment Service Directive).

We gather and monitor APIs from all the Nordic banks into one single API - Nordic API Gateway. So whenever a bank updates their API, we’ll seamlessly swap out the old API with their new one in our API with zero downtime.

What is the guaranteed uptime for Nordic API Gateway?

We know that your service is dependent on fast and reliable technology. Therefore, we always offer a standard 99.5% uptime on our integration.

What is Strong Customer Authentication (SCA)?

To make payments safer than ever, Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is an EU requirement that’s set in place to reduce fraud. In this way, the SCA requirement will demand customers use at least two of the three following authentication measures:

  • Something the customer knows (password or pin)
  • Something the customer has (phone or laptop)
  • Something the customer is (fingerprint or face recognition)
